Arnaut Danjuma’s outstanding display away at Atalanta on Thursday has raised questions over just how Premier League teams didn’t spot his talent last season. In 2020/21, the Dutch forward featured in the Championship for Bournemouth before joining Villarreal and making the leap to LaLiga Santander last summer.
Danjuma netted two goals at the Gewiss Stadium on Thursday to hand the reigning Europa League champions qualification to the Champions League’s round of 16.
The 24-year-old opened the scoring for Villarreal just three minutes in after hitting the back of the net on the counter and then he practically put the game to bed in the 51st minute, when he scored his team’s third after a nice move inside the box.
Despite missing a few matches through injuries, Danjuma has registered five goals in LaLiga Santander and another four in the Champions League.
Emery’s insistence on signing Danjuma
It was the Villarreal coach who had placed Danjuma on his radar and he was confident that his signing would significantly strengthen the team’s attack.
Danjuma is a complete winger and also a player who is making constant progress. Should he remain healthy, he can could make history at Villarreal.
