Erling Haaland has been a revelation in the world of football since bursting onto the scene with Red Bull Salzburg, and now his current club Borussia Dortmund are looking to double his salary to keep him at the club for just one more year.
The news comes in the midst of links with the likes of Real Madrid and a whole host of Premier League clubs.
Should the Norwegian striker accept the offer, his earnings will double from eight million euros a year to 16 million euros.
Haaland signed for Dortmund in 2020 and has been in unbelievable form for the German side, building on the hype he garnered during his brief spell at Salzburg, where he scored 29 goals in 27 games.
Since joining Dortmund, Haaland has scored 52 Bundesliga goals in 53 appearances.
Aside from his incredible stats, he is also a very likeable character in the dressing room, as shown by the way in which he has helped new signings like Jude Bellingham settle at the club.
Despite his relatively short time at Dortmund, his clinical nature, winners’ mentality and personality has resulted in him being one of the most sought-after players in world football.
What next for Haaland?
Dortmund are still some way off of their Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich in terms of quality and trophies.
This is something that will likely weigh on the mind of Haaland, especially when looking at the success of Kylian Mbappe since joining Paris Saint-Germain from Monaco in 2017.
With Mbappe only two years his senior, Haaland will be wanting a big move of his own sooner rather than later, with an aim to win as much silverware as possible.
One of the incentives for Haaland to play at Dortmund has been their presence in the Champions League. However, with their group-stage exit this season, the pull of Europa League football in February will be less to his liking.
If not Dortmund, then who?
Real Madrid have been looking at Haaland for some time and, despite their interest in signing Mbappe, are still interested in signing the Norwegian to make an attacking duo of the most exciting young strikers in the sport.
Manchester United are also said to have an interest in Haaland, but with his father an ex-Manchester City player and his open affiliation for Leeds United, he would have to put his personal interests to one side if he were to sign for the Red Devils.
These two clubs are the standout options for Haaland at present. However, the longer that this saga runs, the more clubs that will likely join the race for his signature.
