Experimental Manchester United draw with Young Boys

Manchester United ended their Champions League Group F campaign with a 1-1 draw at home to Young Boys.

Already through as group winners, the Red Devils were afforded the luxury of not having to go all-out against the Swiss side, whom they had lost to in their Matchday 1 encounter in Bern.

Taking advantage of the situation, Ralf Rangnick fielded an experimental XI that included Spaniard Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Amad Diallo, and Anthony Elanga. The German named just seven substitutes, all of which were youth players.

Mason Greenwood opened the scoring with nine minutes played, but Fabian Rieder levelled before half time.

That would be where the scoring stopped, with United advancing as group winners and Young Boys finishing bottom.

Villarreal and Atalanta meet in Bergamo on Thursday in their rearranged game to see who will join the English side in the knockout rounds.
