Klopp asks for forgiveness for Liverpool’s Napoli nightmare: We need to reinvent ourselves

Liverpool fell to a humiliating 4-1 defeat in their Champions League opener away at Napoli on Wednesday evening.

The result is just their latest disappointment in 2022/23, and Jurgen Klopp offered an apology after the game.

“It was a very disappointing night so I have to apologise to them [the fans],” Klopp said after the game in Italy.

“The problmes we had were obvious. Firstly, Napoli played really well and we played really badly.

“It was hard to accept, but not so hard to explain if you saw the game.”

?Klopp takes responsibility

??Klopp knows that Liverpool have been underperforming this season, and he is determined to get them back on the right track.

“Why did we play so badly? We can’t ignore the bad start and the two penalties, but the question is why the boys didn’t play well,” Klopp pondered.

“It’s my job to solve that. It’s my responsibility.?

“With Alisson in goal, you have to be really bad for that result to happen. It seems as though we have to reinvent ourselves. There are a lot of things missing.”

Klopp on potential Liverpool exit

The German coach was then asked if he feared for his job after the latest setback, in light of Thomas Tuchel having been sacked by Chelsea.

“Not really, but who knows?” Klopp responded.

“There are different types of owners. Ours are quite calm and wait fo me to solve the situation, they don’t expect someone else to do it.

“That’s how it’s always been and the day they change their opinion, they’ll tell me.”
