Leicester 1-0 Liverpool – Goal and highlights – Premier League 21/22

Hello everyone and welcome in to this Premier League live blog for the Tuesday night clash between Leicester and Liverpool. The festive football continues and these two sides meet again, just one week after Liverpool overcame the Foxes on penalties in the League Cup. Now, they’ll battle for the three points at the King Power Stadium and we’ll have all the details for you here on tonight’s live blog.

Leicester vs Liverpool FINAL SCORE: 1-0

This is the beginning of our Leicester vs Liverpool live blog, with all the information you need from the build-up and then minute-by-minute updates once the ball gets rolling. The entries nearest the top are the most recent ones.

Full time: LEICESTER HOLD ON FOR THE WIN!

The match finishes with a Liverpool corner and Alisson comes up looking for another goal. But, he doesn’t get close to it and Leicester hold on for the 1-0 victory, courtesy of Lookman‘s second half goal.

Minute 90: Five minutes of stoppage time

There are five more minutes for Leicester to navigate here, but they’re doing well so far. Liverpool are attacking with intent, but failing to create anything clear-cut as bodies in blue shirts throw themselves at everything.

Minute 86: Schmeichel denies Van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk goes forward for a set piece and the ball comes to him inside the area. The defender gets a shot off, but Kasper Schmeichel is there to make yet another save and to keep his side in front.

Minute 82: Jota puts his header wide

Liverpool have a corner and Diogo Jota finds some space, getting his head to the ball from the edge of the six-yard box. But, his headed attempt drops wide. That was a good chance.

Minute 81: Salah can’t pull off the set piece move

Liverpool win a freekick wide right and Alexander-Arnold pings it across the pitch for Salah, but his volley makes an audible thud and it doesn’t come off as they’d probably seen on the training ground.

Minute 77: Salah can’t find Mane

Salah dribbles away from a couple of defenders and sends a dink towards Mane inside the penalty area, but the cross is too strong and bounces away from the Senegalese forward.

Minute 75: Some curious substitutions from Klopp

Fabinho and then Jordan Henderson come off for Liverpool, with James Milner first and then Roberto Firmino introduced. This has changed Liverpool‘s shape and they’re struggling to settle into any sort of attacking rhythm, at least for now.

Minute 70: Liverpool can’t create much

Liverpool were dominating when Leicester took the lead, but that goal has given the home team extra confidence. In the 10 minutes since Lookman‘s strike, Leicester have looked largely comfortable.

Minute 64: Lookman vs Alexander-Arnold is fascinating

One of the individual duels that is standing out is Trent Alexander-Arnold defending on Ademola Lookman. The Leicester man has already made an impact off the bench by scoring the goal, but he is also holding the ball up well down that flank when faced with Liverpool‘s dynamic right-back.

Minute 59: GOAL!!! LEICESTER TAKE THE LEAD!!!

Against the run of play, it’s Leicester City who go in front. Dewsbury-Hall finds some space down the left and then plays it for Lookman, who surprised Alisson at his near post. It’s 1-0 to the home side.

Minute 55: Over from Mane

Mane has Liverpool‘s first good chance of the half, collecting a perfect pass from his strike partner Jota and taking it in his stride. But, his shot doesn’t trouble Schmeichel, flying over the bar.

Minute 50: Similar to the first half

The second period has started very similarly to the first, with Liverpool dominated without getting any shots off. We saw in the first half, though, how Schmeichel was soon involved and Liverpool are surely just feeling Leicester out right now.

Minute 46: Here we go for the second half!

The second half is underway at the King Power Stadium. Liverpool couldn’t score in the opening 45 minutes, despite dominating. Let’s see what they can come up with in the second half.

Half time: Salah’s penalty miss mean it stays goalless

There were no goals in the first half of this Leicester vs Liverpool, but the visiting team had a golden opportunity to take the lead when they won a penalty. However, Salah‘s attempt was saved and he then hit the crossbar with the rebound. That keeps it 0-0 at the break.

Minute 43: Another blast over from Henderson

He had one similar chance earlier in this first half and now Henderson strikes over again, once more at a half-clearance from a Liverpool ball into the Leicester penalty area.

Minute 37: Another chance for Leicester

Leicester come forward again, with Vardy finding space and managing to leave it perfectly for Maddison inside the area. From a tight angle, he puts a dangerous ball across the face of goal, that Liverpool manage to clear.

Minute 34: Vardy has a go at the other end

After several Liverpool attacks in a row, Leicester finally get forward and it’s Jamie Vardy who provokes a corner. After a few mishit clearances, Liverpool finally get that corner kick away too.

Minute 31: It’s another save from Schmeichel

Kasper Schmeichel has been the busiest man on the pitch so far, this time making another save by getting a strong hand to a shot from Mohamed Salah.

Minute 27: Schmeichel denies Jota

He might have been offside, but nobody knew it at the time as Schmeichel rushed out to close down the space and block Diogo Jota‘s shot on goal. It’s still goalless.

Minute 21: Schmeichel claws it away

Liverpool come again and an awkward ball from Oxlade-Chamberlain towards Henderson needs to be dealt with by Schmeichel at his near post. The danger is cleared away.

Minute 14: SALAH MISSES A PENALTY!!!

Liverpool have a great opportunity to go ahead in this game, winning a penalty, but Mohamed Salah has his attempt saved by Schmeichel and then heads the rebound off the crossbar. It’s still 0-0.

Minute 8: Volleyed over by Henderson

As the ball drops to Jordan Henderson, the midfielder volleys it first time and it flashes over the crossbar. That strike certainly had some zip on it.

Minute 5: Over the bar from Soumare

Leicester finally manage to get into their opponent’s half and work a shooting opportunity for Soumare just outside the area. But, he fires well over Alisson‘s crossbar.

Minute 3: Liverpool pin Leicester back

Liverpool start off by pinning Leicester right back, even if the home side manage to keep their guests at arm’s length and away from Schmeichel‘s goal. For now, anyway…
