Tottenham Hotspur are now the leading candidates to sign AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie.
The 25-year-old’s contract at the Stadio San Siro expires at the end of this season, which means he is available to sign on a free transfer next summer.
Spurs, though, are confident of securing Kessie‘s services on a pre-contract agreement in January, with the player joining up with Antonio Conte‘s side ahead of next season.
According to the Express, both Manchester United and Spurs‘ north London rivals Arsenal have shown interest in Kessie, but Tottenham remain the most likely destination as the club have already made contact with his representatives.
He is available to negotiate a contract with any team from January 1, and Milan are already resigned to losing him in the summer.
Prior to Tottenham‘s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace last weekend, Conte was asked about his January plans in his first transfer window as Spurs boss.
“Honestly, at this moment I cannot answer that,” he said. “Now my focus is to work with the players to improve the situation.
“Then for sure we will have a meeting with the club to try understand if there is the possibility to improve the situation in terms of transfers.”
Kessie has contributed five goals to Milan‘s Serie A campaign so far, which has helped the club secure second spot in the league, four points behind cross-city rivals Inter.
